"Se comprendre et travailler ensemble nécessite de partager des informations et
des compétences via des supports. Le symposium COMMON’14 (Communication
multimodale et collaboration instrumentée) vise à comprendre les modes
d’échange et les moyens mis en œuvre par des acteurs humains pour
communiquer à plusieurs de manière efficace dans le cadre multimodal que les
nouvelles technologies ont permis de mettre en place. Il interroge autant les
propositions technologiques innovantes que les approches conceptuelles et
méthodologiques des modes de représentation et de communication.
Dans ce cadre, le symposium COMMON’14 entend réunir différentes disciplines
(anthropologie, sociologie, psychologie, sémiotique, linguistique, sciences
cognitives, informatique, sciences et approches de la conception...) et
diverses pratiques (ingénierie, architecture, design, ergonomie,
médecine...), autour des questions suivantes :

• quels modes et quels outils de communication pour supporter les activités collaboratives (conception, production, formation) ?
• comment construire un sens commun et faire émerger une intelligence collective ?
• quelle place pour les images, les traces graphiques, les représentations verbales et non verbales dans la construction du sens partagé ? quelles interactions entre elles ?
• quels rôles pour les outils informatiques dans la compréhension et le remodelage du contexte et de l’objet d’échange ?
• quelle articulation entre espace privé et espace partagé ? quelle appropriation et gestion des espaces de travail et de communication ?
• quels impacts des acteurs (expertise, statut hiérarchique, jeux de pouvoir...) sur les échanges multimodaux ?"

COMMON’14 Multimodal Communication and Instrumented Collaboration

Perspectives on Enunciation, Representation, Modality

"Understanding each other and working together entails using tools to share
information and skills. Symposium COMMON’14 (multimodal communication and
instrumented collaboration) aims to understand the means and modes of exchange
used by human actors for efficient communication in a multimodal environment,
facilitated by new technologies. The symposium explores innovative
technological solutions as well as conceptual and methodological approaches of
the means of communication and representation.

In this context, Symposium COMMON’14 intends to bring together various
disciplines (anthropology, sociology, psychology, semiotics, cognitive science,
linguistics, computer science, design science and approach...) and practices
(engineering, architecture, design, ergonomics, medicine...), around the
following questions :

• Which communication means and tools can support collaborative activities (design, production, and training) ?
• How to build a common understanding and bring out a collective intelligence ?
• What place illustrations, graphic signs, verbal and non-verbal representations have in building a shared meaning ? How do they interact with each other ?
• Which roles application tools play in understanding and shaping the context and purpose of the exchange ?
• What is the link between private and shared spaces ? How are work and communication spaces adopted and managed ?
• What is the impact of the actors (expertise, hierarchical status, power politics…) on multimodal exchanges ?"
